Professional assignment report: food loss and waste in the avocado supply chain

In this 15 minute recording, students Diederik, Henk and Ramon from HAS Green Academy present the findings of their professional assignment: "Food Loss and waste in the avocado supply chain Kenya-Europe". They looked into the losses in the supply chain, from harvesting in Kenya to ripening in Europe and propose an implementation plan towards better quality and reduced losses.

Plan of approach: Reducing avocado waste, launching new products

In this 7 minute video, students Nicolas, Maureen and Tijn from HAS Green Academy present their plan of approach for their professional assignment. After a brainstorm and initial research, they will look into three options: a) avocado hair oil; b) avocado scrub; and c) avocado paste as a semi-final cooking product.

Plan of approach: Container transport of avocados from Kenya to Netherlands

In this 5 minute video, students Bart, Imke and Gerco from HAS Green Academy present their plan of approach for their professional assignment for Airflo. The topic is to develop a business and implementation plan for a sea freight container transport service for avocado export. So far, avocados are airfreight.

Plan of approach: Sustainable sourcing from small and medium scale avocado farmers in Kenya

In this 7 minute video, students Sander, Dafa and Andreas from HAS Green Academy present their plan of approach for their professional assignment for Specialfruit. The research request is: How can sourcing avocados from small and medium scale farmers be made sustainable? As most food losses are happening in the domestic stages: traceability and transparency may help increase awareness about losses now and prepare for certification in the longer term. The students will build on Agriterra's scoping of avocado cooperatives and they plan for interviews, surveys and an audiovisual road map.
