Intergenerational Dialogue in Action: Sarah van Buren Joins WFD26 as Youth co-Moderator

WFD26 News Promos 8

Every edition of World Food Day features some firsts, and this year marks a major milestone: The World Food Forum (WFF) Netherlands, facilitated by Eye For Nature, is partnering with NFP to embed meaningful, youth-led participation throughout the entire program. Central to this initiative is our Youth Co-Moderator, Sarah van Buren, who will join Ikenna Azuike on the main stage to drive intergenerational dialogue.

Why youth co-moderation matters

Too often, young professionals, farmers, and innovators are invited to major conferences merely as audience members. The WFF Netherlands chapter believes that young people should actively shape agrifood systems governance alongside established leaders.

By co-moderating the plenary sessions, Sarah will ensure that:

  • Youth Perspectives Are Front and Center: Critical questions regarding climate resilience, fair transitions, and future-proof farming are integrated into plenary debates.

  • True Intergenerational Exchange Happens: Discussions move beyond speeches to foster genuine exchange between senior decision-makers and the next generation.

  • Action-Oriented Outcomes Are Highlighted: Plenary discussions connect directly with practical solutions led by young changemakers across the Netherlands.

Meet Sarah van Buren

Sarah brings a strong commitment to youth empowerment and agrifood systems transformation. Selected to represent the youth voice on stage, She embodies the energy and vision needed to bridge gaps between policy dialogue and lived experience.

"Young people are not just the consumers or beneficiaries of tomorrow's food system—we are innovating, farming, and leading research today. Co-moderating World Food Day 2026 is an incredible opportunity to bring our collective questions and solutions directly to key decision-makers on stage."
