What are the building blocks for a future proof agri-food trade policy, which contributes to food and nutrition security and inclusive and sustainable food systems in LMICs? And how could the same policy deliver on the improved sustainability of the food system in the Netherlands?

These questions will be addressed in an upcoming informal network dialogue session hosted by NFP. It marks the first of a series of three dialogues on Dutch agricultural policy with an international focus. The series builds on the earlier conversations with our network partners on the role of the Netherlands’ agriculture policy in the global landscape. NFP recognises the added value in broadening the dialogue to include perspectives from a wider range of experts from various institutions and stakeholder groups.

The dialogue is expected to generate policy recommendations for the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature & Food Quality as well as for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while it is also meant to develop ideas for new or strengthened initiatives by stakeholders from private sector, civil society or knowledge institutes. NFP’s intention is to develop constructive policy suggestions that work in the context of the agenda of fostering the sustainability (economic, ecological and social) of food systems.

The program will feature presentations from prominent experts in the field, including representatives from WUR, IDH and other organisations. Throughout the programme, there will be ample time for group discussions. Participants are invited to actively contribute and share their experiences and those of your international partners with relevant programmes and policies.

For illustration, the discussion topics will include:

  • The role of Dutch trade policy in developing robust local and regional food markets in LMIC.

  • The potential of diversification of products as well as export and import markets.

  • How to respond to the strong demand for more trade and market access.

  • Voice and ownership of small-scale female and male farmers.

  • Preconditions for future proof agri-food import and export to and from the Netherlands/Europe

The meeting is by invitation only. Stakeholders with interest to be invited, are kindly requested to send an e-mail to events@nlfoodpartnership.com
