Should you invest more time in talking to farmers about data?

It has been a while ago but prior to the registration deadline on March 16th, promotional events were in full swing across all universities to raise awareness about the Food Systems Innovation Challenge. One of these universities is Lukenya University in Kenya where more than 500 students attended the information session of the Food Systems Innovation Challenge. We asked the coordinator of the university, Judith Wufala, to reflect on the event.

In the Food Systems Innovation challenge 18 teams representing nine univeristies will compete for the best design of a food system innovation. The teams are challenged to design a project plan and to implement it during the challenge period from April 2024 to September 2024. One of the criteria for the project design is its alignment with the country's national pathways to sustainable food systems. However, what exactly constitutes a national pathway?

“National Pathways to sustainable food systems”

In the Food Systems Innovation challenge , 18 teams representing nine universities engage in a competition to design a food system innovation which is in alignment with the national pathways of a specific country. While we are working towards the start of the Food Systems Innovation challenge we would like to share an example of an innovation that can be supported through the challenge. Just like this year Lukenya University in Kenya also joined WUR Student Challenges in 2021. Their Hydropan team, consisting of five members, came up with the innovative climate-smart hydroelectric technology: the hydropan.
