Biovision Africa Trust, PELUM and others are hosting the 1st Eastern Africa Agroecology Conference, taking place on March 21-24, in Nairobi and online. YALTA will co-lead the conference track on Youth and Women in Agroecology with a keynote speech on how to make agroecology attractive for youth.

This conference aims to invoke consciousness and motivate regional and continental communities to dialogue how to invest in interventions which can ameliorate the negative impacts of the current unsustainable food systems by transitioning towards more environmentally friendly solutions with long-term vision and planning.

The conference will be held at Safari Park Hotel and will include exhibitions, plenary and breakout sessions as well as field excursions to agroecological enterprises. The conference will be a hybrid event comprising in-person attendance and livestreaming for on-line participants.

Together with BIBA Kenya, YALTA will co-facilitate a parallel session about women and youth engagement in agroecology, to inform a statement towards Eastern African policy makers.

Which stories and recommendations from YALTA should be included in the presentation and the statement? Let us know!

YALTA is a well thought program and in Uganda it did well to inspire and motivate the youth in the path of Agroecology and Agripreneurship with a number of successes through various initiatives. Thank you to Richard and team for the wonderful work done. However, a deep dive into other youth business support strategies would go an extra mile to get sustainable youth initiatives and innovations. If the designers are thinking of a scale up, then youth mentorship strategies such as Business Incubation, Business to Business linkages, facilitating linkages youth businesses to potential investors or linkages to financial opportunities (youth friendly packages), design youth innovative start ups.
