World Food Day: Launch of the Saline Agri Map
Netherlands Food Partnership (NFP) brought together the agrifood community for NFP World Food Day in Amersfoort this month. NFP and Netherlands Water Partnership (NWP) hosted an interactive side event on saline agriculture at this well-attended event. As salinisation is rapidly becoming one of the biggest challenges to food production worldwide, this topic was an essential part of the global theme of World Food Day 2023: Water is Life, Water is Food.
The session featured the launch of the Saline Agri Map, an online portal showing saline agriculture projects and initiatives in Europe and the Middel East and North Africa (MENA) region. The map is based on the results of the SALAD (Saline AgricuLture for ADaptation) research project by the Institute of Environmental Studies (IVM) of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. New projects will be added to the map on a rolling basis.
