Over 70% of households in Uganda depend on agriculture. The agricultural sector in Uganda and the rest of East Africa is growing rapidly. As a result, the demand for technology and skills has increased significantly in recent decades. This applies to sectors such as horticulture, potatoes, dairy, aquaculture and poultry. As well as supporting sectors such as animal feed, agricultural machinery and equipment.
Opportunities for Dutch companies
The Netherlands has a good reputation in the agricultural sector. As a result, this mission also offers opportunities for Dutch companies.
A study of the agricultural sector in Uganda was commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality in 2022: Agribusiness Market Scan (pdf). This mapped out, among other things, the opportunities for Dutch companies. Several roadmaps have been developed for further deepening, namely for aquaculture, potatoes and poultry.
The market scan and roadmaps form the basis of this mission. We will focus on the 2 central themes of this mission: 'Climate-smart solutions' and 'Digital solutions'. Prior to the mission, the Ugandan consulting firm Asigma will further explain the opportunities and developments in Uganda based on these themes. Company visits and relevant stakeholders will be tailored accordingly.
Harvest Money Expo
Discover your opportunities in Uganda's agri-food sector at the Harvest Money Expo. The themes of "Climate-smart solutions" and "Digital solutions" are also the focus of this 7th edition of the event. This agricultural fair will take place from February 23 to 25, 2024, in Uganda's capital Kampala. The event is nationally known and attracts about 20,000 visitors annually.
The trade mission is open to:
- Dutch agri-food companies already active in Uganda;
- Dutch agri-food companies that are interested in doing business in Uganda and want to get acquainted with the Ugandan market. Priority sectors are horticulture, dairy, potatoes, poultry and aquaculture. Other relevant (supporting) sectors are animal feed, agricultural machinery and equipment;
- Dutch companies providing products and services that fit within the themes of 'Climate-smart solutions' and 'Digital solutions'.
