Call for papers: Designing, assessing and scaling approaches for integrated seed sector development

A call for papers has been announced on the topic of Designing, assessing and scaling approaches for integrated seed sector development. An interesting opportunity that we would like to share with our NL-CGIAR network. Submission deadline: 1 april 2024

The special issue announced in this call for papers contributes to the understanding of the role for seed sector development in accelerating food systems transformations and attaining the SDGs in low- and middle-income countries by providing evidence on what works—and what does not work—in enhancing access to and use of quality seed of improved and well adapted varieties or breeds, learning from interventions along the spectrum of formal and informal systems and across crops, livestock and fish.

The call requests papers from multidisciplinary teams fitting the following topics

  1. Perspectives on approaches for integrated seed sector development highlighting linkages between agricultural and seed systems, and relevance to productivity, food security, nutrition, social, economic and/or environmental outcomes.
  2. Research of policy and regulation for seed sector development, providing conceptual frameworks and empirical findings using integrated approaches in the analysis of policy and regulation, highlighting roles of policy-driven systemic changes.
  3. Insights on and analysis of efforts scaling approaches based on integrated seed sector development, emphasizing demand-side drivers and inclusive and sustainable models.
  4. Insights of and analysis of practices taking an approach based on integrated seed sector development in models and practices for emergency seed aid and humanitarian assistance
  5. Analysis of system perspectives on seed sector assessments considering multiple seed systems, agricultural systems, and the natural, social and economic environments in which they operate.
