As part of the second round of the NL-CGIAR Senior Expert Programme II, ten experienced researchers affiliated with Dutch research institutions will be able to launch or expand their collaboration with CGIAR, the world’s largest global organisation for agricultural research. They will contribute, for instance, to CGIAR’s digital transformation agenda for sustainable and inclusive cocoa production and to innovative data collection on nutrition. Many of the Senior Experts’ assignments also pay attention to social dynamics and agro-ecological contexts.

The Senior Expert Programme aims to promote knowledge and strengthen innovation in the field of global food and nutrition security. It does this by reimbursing part of the Senior Experts’ staff costs. This enables CGIAR to draw on Dutch knowledge and expertise, whilst, conversely, Dutch research institutions can make use of CGIAR’s expertise, research facilities and networks. The programme forms part of the partnership between the Dutch government and CGIAR.

Specifically, the Senior Experts will make scientific and strategic contributions to the CGIAR Science Programs ‘Climate Action ’, ‘Policy Innovation’, ‘Scaling for Impact’ and ‘Food Frontiers and Security’, as well as the CGIAR Accelerators ‘Capacity Sharing’, ‘Digital Transformation’ and ‘Gender Equality and Inclusion’.

All detailed information about the 10 Senior Experts and their research emphasis is available on the NWO Senior Expert Programme webpage
