E-course food system transformation - edition 2023 is a wrap

After four modules, the e-course on food system transformation is coming to a close. In the edition 2023, a record number of 780 professionals participated. Together, they produced almost 20,000 comments on the various exercises in the e-course. Although the plenary sessions and mentoring concluded, learners can finish the course in their own pace and time until 30th of April.

The e-course was again co-organised with Wageningen CDI. It consisted of 4 modules with 10 to 12 exercises each. Each module also included a plenary webinar with 2 food system experts (see recordings elsewhere in this community). Every year, a few new learning blocks are added to the course. This time, 'The Day the Food System Went to the Doctor' a funny blog by Corinna Hawkes was added.

Participants gave high appreciation marks to the e-course. Many spent more than 3 hours studying the resources and exercises in each module. A big majority of participants discussed the topic of food system transformation with colleagues and friends.

Here is a quote from Keshia Hoaeane, PhD researcher at NRF-DSI Centre of Excellence in Food Security (CoE-FS) at the University of the Western Cape, and member of the Western Cape Food Governance Community of Practice, Cape Town, South Africa :

"As an early career researcher, this e-course is the bedrock. It is an ideal opportunity to share and collaborate with a variety of changemakers and gain a more holistic view on the problem of food insecurity and sustainable food systems across Africa."

Another comment was received from Shadrack Agaki, Communications and Food Policy Expert, Kenya

"I am glad I joined this fantastic and timely course. I believe that this course and food systems are part of the new awakening of the imperative of food system thinking in policy and practice."

In the months ahead, a number of e-course participants will be writing blogs on NFPConnects. They are invited to share their personal take-aways, and how food system thinking may be inspirational in their work. Follow this e-course community to read their blogs. Meanwhile, you can re-watch the recordings of the plenary presentations in the e-course here

In line with the topic of the e-course, participants also shared their favourite food recipes with each other. Have a look yourself!
