Motion passed: Dutch government to investigate true pricing in The Netherlands

A system of true pricing can ensure that climate and environmental damage are taken into account and makes sustainable choices more attractive, according to a motion presented to the Dutch parliament in June 2023.
Parliament adopted the motion and agreed to investigate:
- which sectors do not yet make use of true prices;
- how to raise consumer awareness;
- which instruments can be utilised by the Dutch government to realise a system of true pricing.
The motion was tabled by Raoul Boucke of the Dutch political party D66 (Dutch internationally minded liberal-democratic party) in cooperation with Henri Bontenbal of CDA (Dutch Christian-democratic political party), Pieter Grinwis of ChristenUnie (Dutch Christian-democratic political party) and Silvio Erkens of VVD (Dutch People's Party for Freedom and Democracy). The motion passed with a majority of 75 votes out of 117 (32 did not vote). The Dutch political parties in favor of the motion are a/o: VVD, D66, CDA, SP, PvdA, Groen Links, PvdD, ChristenUnie, SGP, Volt. Dutch political parties who voted against the motion are a/o: PVV, FVD, JA21, DENK and BBB. The motion was tabled during the parliamentary debate on the additional climate package on 20 June 2023. The motion requests the Dutch government to inform parliament about the outcome in spring 2024.
