Food Systems & Climate Change Events @COP28

The role of food systems in adapting to and mitigating climate change is high on the agenda of the COP28 in Dubai. A range of actors from the Netherlands will attend COP28 to support this agenda, and will co-host discussion events about this nexus. Please use the list below to find the key programme information and links, as well as a selection of side-events that NFP partners suggest to you

Detailed schedules and access to streams become available as the conference starts. Please note that UAE is in time zone GMT +4. And time difference with the Netherlands (CET) is 3 hours.

    • Food Systems Pavilion: A coalition of leading international food organisations have committed to bring their diverse perspectives together in order to achieve our shared goal to accelerate the transition to healthy, resilient and equitable food systems.     • Food & Agriculture Pavilion; A collaboration between the world’s leading food and agriculture organisations, CGIAR, FAO, IFAD and The Rockefeller Foundation have developed a programme that bring together a diverse range of partners to share what they know and to discuss how agrifood systems can be part of the solution to the climate crisis. https://foodpavilion.org/ - Livestream and registration link through programme page

    • Food4Climate Pavilion: The Food4Climate pavilion is a space within the Blue Zone that will be open from Thursday 30 November to 12 December. Partnering organisations will host events to bring food system transformation and sustainable diets to the heart of COP28, mainstreaming a transition toward diverse and resilient food production and consumption systems.     • Montreal Protocol pavilion: The Montreal Protocol pavilion at COP28 will offer a platform for the Montreal Protocol and the cooling community to enhance their visibility and promote climate action. The Ozone to Cool Zone pavilion intends to capitalise on its side events and networking opportunities to spread awareness, scale current efforts, and increase ambition for more solutions that minimize the cooling sector's negative climate impacts, advance its sustainability goals and unlock innovation for more effective solutions.     • Resilience Hub: In 2023, the Resilience Hub will return to COP28 in Dubai, UAE, with a mission to further accelerate the ambition, action and investment that is urgently needed on adaptation and resilience, from now through 2030. For more info see:https://cop-resilience-hub.org/cop28-agenda/

    • 2 December. IKEA Foundation is Thematic Day host on 2 December at the Food System Pavilion. Theme of the day is EMBRACE regenerative agriculture and agroecology. See the full overview here --> Link 

    • 4 December. 7:45-8:45 CET - 10:45-11:45 GST Rabobank:. GFCCC: financing the food and energy nexus: The complex and interrelated nature of our global resource systems. This event will showcase why financing is critical to making this transition a reality and what is needed to do so. Rabobank, DLL, and the GFCC will converse with various stakeholders in the food value chain as well as solution providers. Montreal Protocol Pavilion --> Link

    • 4 December. ClimEat is Thematic Day host on 4 December at the Food System Pavilion. Clim-Eat’s sessions at COP28 are designed to inspire bold action, disruptive innovation, and constructive collaboration. By bringing together thought leaders and change-makers, Clim-Eat aims to catalyze initiatives that will reshape the global food landscape, making it more resilient, sustainable, and inclusive.     • 6 December. SNV is Thematic Day host on 6 December at the Food System Pavilion. SNV is set to host and organise a series of pivotal sessions, providing a platform for experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to come together. These gatherings are designed to spark in-depth dialogue, catalyse the exchange of innovative ideas, and lay the groundwork for tangible outcomes. More about SNV at COP28 see here --> Link 

    • 6 December. 12.15-13.00 CET - 15.15-16.00 GST Topsector Horticulture & Starting Materials, AVAG, GreenTech and Van der Hoeven cohost a side event at the Food4climate pavilion entitled "Spearheading the Future of Food – affordable fresh & local food4all!" with specific attention for Controlled Environment Agriculture as a solution which requires less water, no pesticides, less land, and which leads to increased biodiversity, food production, food safety and food security.  --> Link

    • 10 December. 6.00-7.00 CET - 9.00-10.00 GST at #Water4Climate Pavilion. WUR, Van der Hoeven, NFP An intergenerational dialogue for Water-Food-Systems Thinking. --> Link

    • 10 December. 11:30-13:00 CET - 14:30-16:00 GST ECDPM, AUDA-NEPAD, AKADEMIYA 2063 Addressing food systems and climate financing gaps. Hybrid workshop to showcase lessons learned and best practices, including recent experiences in countries such as Senegal, Rwanda, and Kenya). For more information see here --> Link 

    • 10 December. 15.00-16.00 CET - 18:00-19:00 GST. NFP and NWP. Promoting the declaration of 2028 as “Year of Saline Agriculture”: Climate resilient agriculture for sustainable Production Systems and healthy ecosystems in salt-affected areas --> Link

    • 11 December. 6.30-7.30 CET - 9.30-10.30 GST ECDPM and SNV Building local ecosystems conducive to public and private finance to support food systems adaptation. For the livestream and more details see here --> Link 

    • CGIAR: At COP28, CGIAR is addressing two of humanity’s most urgent challenges: climate change and food security. Climate change is fueling a global food crisis, pushing levels of hunger and malnutrition to record highs. At the same time, agriculture and food systems are a major contributor to climate change. Join us at the Food and Agriculture Pavilion to engage with global experts and leaders accelerating action and investment to transform food, land and water systems in a climate crisis.     • World Benchmark Alliance: WBA along with our Allies and partners will host a variety of side events at COP28. We will also have WBA experts as featured speakers at various events in the Blue and Green Zones.
