Dialogues and Partnerships with FAO, IFAD, WFP and CGIAR

Romeheader

Multilateral collaboration is crucial for transforming food systems worldwide. The UN Rome-based agencies (RBAs) play a central role therein: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the World Food Programme (WFP), and increasingly the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). With their strong track record in food and climate, Dutch knowledge institutes, civil society and businesses can be of added value for the work of these agencies in Africa and in other continents, but more dialogue and network opportunities are needed to advance stronger collaboration between the Dutch food network and the Rome-based agencies.

NFP and ECDPM are joining hands to facilitate an informal platform of Dutch actors for easier and longer-term engagement with the Rome-based Agencies. The goal is to strengthen the collective understanding of and engagement with the work of the RBAs to improve knowledge sharing and partnership building between Dutch, Rome-based Agencies and African partners, and contribute to accelerating SDG 2 'Zero Hunger'.

To foster collaboration, mutual understanding and impact, we will create networking opportunities with key champions within FAO, IFAD, and WFP. When relevant we will also connect with the broader ecosystem of support in Rome, including CGIAR and the UN Food Systems Summit Coordination Hub. This is expected to help foster a sustained and regular multi-stakeholder dialogue between these agencies and the Dutch food network.

In particular, we will help identify knowledge gaps between Dutch actors, Rome-based agencies and their partners, particularly in Africa, sharing information between experts to strengthen the evidence base for food system transitions, strengthening existing initiatives in which Dutch and/or Rome-based institutions are involved, and advocating for more openness at the UN agencies for broader engagement of non-state actors.
